Songbirds are members of the largest order of birds, the passeriformes, or “perching birds.” They are characterized by their four-toed feet with three facing forward and one facing backward. Some common birds in this order are finches, sparrows, corvids, and swallows. Songbirds are known for their advanced vocal abilities, though some members -- like crows and jays -- are not particularly melodic.
